Liverpool are in Doha preparing for their Club World Cup.

Liverpool is in Doha getting ready for their Club World Cup semi-final against Mexico's Monterrey, but before that game, Jurgen Klopp can spy on their potential final opponents whereas ensuring he tunes in to look at the Anfield club's second string in league Cup action on Tuesday.

The runaway Premier League leaders are in the bizarre position of having to play 2 matches in 2 days on 2 separate continents, almost 7,000 kilometers apart, with the League Cup quarter-final away to Aston Villa being followed by the meeting with the CONCACAF Champions League winners in Qatar on Wednesday evening.

The club's under-23 coach, Neil Critchley, can lead Liverpool's youngsters against Villa, while Klopp and all of his star players arrived in Doha on Sunday trying to end a fine year by winning the Club World Cup for the first time. Brazilian giants Flamengo, the Copa Libertadores winners, meet Asian champions Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia within the 1st semi-final at Doha's Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday at 8:30 pm standard time (1730 GMT), with Liverpool's League game kicking off at 1945 GMT.

"Tomorrow night we tend to begin with watching the other semi-final live in the stadium, I think it should be possible. so we will leave there a bit earlier and sit here in front of the television and watch that game," Klopp told Liverpool's official website.

"Aston Villa is the big favorite, that's clear, but who cares? It's football and the ball rolls in every direction, that is pretty cool."

Liverpool arrived in Qatar without injured defender Dejan Lovren but with Georginio Wijnaldum, who came off in Saturday's 2-0 win over Watford. Welsh right-back Neco Williams and midfielder Curtis Jones, both 18, may ordinarily are in the team against Villa but were instead known as up by Klopp to travel to Qatar. Monterrey reached the semi-final when beating Al-Sadd, coached by Barcelona great Xavi Hernandez, on Sat.

'Massive' for Flamengo

Al-Sadd is involved in this tournament by their status as champions of the host nation. This remains a strange, disjointed competition, and one that will soon disappear in its current format as FIFA press the reset button and come back with a controversial, 24-team extravaganza in China from 2021.

The importance of the trophy to Liverpool is debatable, and for sure none of their supporters would prefer winning the Club World Cup to claiming a primary English title since 1990.

Nevertheless, it's not one thing that Klopp and his aspect are dismissing, because the Anfield outfit look to continue recent European dominance within the competition -- the last six editions are won by the European representative, with Real Madrid taking the last 3.

Chelsea was the last European participant to fail to carry the trophy as they lost to Corinthians in 2012.

It is a competition that tends to mean more for South American clubs, representing a chance for them to measure themselves against Europe's best. Flamengo secured a ticket to Qatar once they won the Copa Libertadores last month, beating stream Plate within the final with 2 late goals by Gabriel Barbosa, the one-time Inter Milan flop.

This may be a large title. we all know this can be the ultimate for clubs around the world which means a lot in South America too," said Flamengo defender Rafinha, who played for Bayern Munich once they won the competition in 2013. Flamengo won the recent Intercontinental Cup in 1981 by beating Liverpool and they have their sights set on another meeting with the Anfield side, but 1st they must see off Al Hilal.

"In Brazil, people are talking a lot regarding Liverpool and forgetting that we've got a game before that. they're being forgotten as a result of they're from Saudi Arabia, they're not European and so they're under-appreciated," warned Flamengo coach Jorge Jesus Christ, who was previously in charge of Al Hilal.

Corruption as a Problem in the Nigerian Society.

A new public survey discharged today by Socio-Economic Rights and answerability Project (SERAP) shows that corruption remains a significant drawback in Nigeria. According to the survey, “96.2% of the respondents believed corruption remains a significant drawback in Nigeria these days. There  society.”

President Buhari
Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP Deputy Director, in a statement, said in addition to the  acknowledgment that corruption may be a major drawback in Nigeria, the survey any established that “84.5% of Nigerians believed corruption affects them.”

The latest report by SERAP entitled Nigeria: Anti-corruption Social Norms Survey was launched on Wednesday in Lagos. The survey is printed as a part of the organization’s implementation of the Anti-Corruption in Nigeria (ACORN) project funded with UK aid from the british|the people.

The survey shows that social media and the internet are the most common sources of knowledge on corruption, in line with 38th and 33rd severally, of the respondents surveyed. It further shows that to successfully reach the majority of Nigerians and influence behavior change; these are the foremost dependable channels.

In distinction, only 9.8% and 1.6% mentioned spiritual establishments and ancient rulers severally, as influential to influence behavior amendment.

According to the survey, “Traditional leaders have lost their place in guiding the society on morals and ethics. Another noteworthy observation created on the decreasing role of the normal leaders was recorded as follows: some of the traditional rulers are key political players.

“They influenced elections for politicians who in turn grant them favors. Paying ancient rulers exploitation of public cash managed by politicians also dilutes their power to stand against corrupt leaders.

“Almost 1/2 the respondents (43.5%) surveyed don't believe that corruption maybe with success fought in Nigeria. The result paints a citizenry that has resigned to the high levels of corruption. This response ought to be close with 96 of the respondents who viewed corruption as a major drawback in Nigeria and 86 who believed it affects them.

“Notably, the majority (23.8%) of the respondents’ perception is that this is a loss to the Nigerian people. However, a significant 18.8% view theft of public cash as a loss to the govt. this should be a cause for alarm because it would be laborious to mobilize voters against corruption till the point wherever Nigerians read it as an economic crime against the people.

“Of greater concern is that a combined 18 appear to tacitly approve or at least admire the acts of corruption and illicit wealth acquisition. about 12-tone music read the loss of public cash as a supply of wealth whereas five-hitter would even like to induce a chance to carry on such a vice.

“The implication is that whereas the social norms, values and experiences purpose to corruption as a negative vice, the grouping have little religion in the efforts aimed at tackling it. further inquisition on the negative perception of anti-corruption efforts pointed to the need for a mindset change. some of the adverse attitudes known were influenced by a perceived lack of punishment of corrupt persons.

“This any entrenches the corrupt tendencies. additionally, poverty among voters was seen to compromise the expected subject pressure against corruption. Some respondents mentioned the ease with that political players bribe their way to positions and once in office perpetuate corruption. The societal values that do not notice voter bribery as repugnant so cultivate weak and corrupt leadership.

“On the issue of personal responsibility against corruption, about 57 of the respondents believed they need a task in supporting anti-corruption efforts. It ought to be a matter of concern that more than 400th don't think there's something they will do on this front.

“The majority of the respondents who did not see their role in reducing or eliminating corruption (52%), were in a sense of helplessness as they either believed there's nothing a normal person may do to fight corruption or had negative experiences that nothing changes even when citizens make effort.

“Perhaps the most adverse observation in this context was that V-day of the respondents believed it's the government’s role to fight corruption. This finding resonates with an almost equal proportion of the respondents who viewed the loss of large amounts of cash through corruption as a loss to the govt, and not the public.

“It is imperative that Nigerians acknowledge corruption as thievery of their own cash to cultivate a sense of personal responsibility against the vice.”

“The federal government should respect the rule of law and obey all court orders to enhance the integrity and independence of the judiciary.

“The federal ought to guarantee effective and full enforcement of the freedom info|of data|of knowledge} Act to encourage citizens’ access to credible information regarding the frequency of corruption among public officers and in ministries, departments, and agencies. this may facilitate to gauge and change descriptive norms regarding corruption in Nigeria and future behavior.

“The National Assembly ought to show leadership within the fight against corruption by business its spending and members’ salaries and allowances further as bringing the salaries and allowances among the requirements of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) as well as on members’ constitutional oaths of office.

“The National Assembly ought to collaborate with ancient and religious and citizens’ and community establishments to market transparency and responsibility within the public and personal sectors.

“The National Assembly ought to drop the Social Media Bill and Hate Speech Bill, and be additional proactive within the fight against corruption, as well as bypassing the return of Crime Bill, the Whistle-blowers Bill, and also the Witness Protection Bill among others.

“The freelance Corrupt Practices and alternative connected Offences Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Monetary Crimes Commission (EFCC) ought to hold regular public hearings into allegations of corruption in ministries, departments and agencies and encourage citizens’ participation within the fight against corruption.

“The ICPC and EFCC ought to collaborate with spiritual establishments, ancient establishments and alternative crucial members of the civil society and community-based establishments to develop methods on the way to relieve and shift a number of the social pressures that sustain corruption.

“State Governments ought to domesticate the liberty of knowledge Act among their states if they need not already done this, and encourage Nigerians to blow whistle and report on petty and grand corruption as well as on social media. they ought to finish the harassment and intimidation of journalists and voters WHO report on allegations of corruption as well as on social media among their states.

“The National Human Rights Commission ought to establish a special task force unitedly with ancient and spiritual leaders and citizens’ and community-based mostly movements and members of the civil society to market awareness among Nigerians regarding the negative effects of corruption on access to public merchandise and services and also the society generally further as why it's in everyone’s interest to resist all types of corruption.

“The Minister info|of data|of knowledge} and Culture ought to drop the push to control the Social Media and encourage diversity of access to information as well as on allegations of corruption involving superior government officials; further as collaborate with spiritual establishments, ancient establishments and alternative crucial members of the civil society and community-based establishments to develop methods on the way to relieve and shift a number of the social pressures that sustain corruption.

The Northerners are greedy when it comes to power.

The simplest way that forwards for the United States is to change election management in Nigeria. an excessive amount of power is targeted in INEC’s hands. INEC ought to only be saddled with the conduct of presidential, and national assembly elections, whereas state electoral commission ought to be saddled with the conduct of governorship, and state house of assembly election.

William

It is also very sad, and unfortunate that violence, thuggery, and assassinations became the hallmarks whenever elections come back up in Nigeria. To compound the matter, security operatives don't seem to be neutral. They take sides, and this is not good for our democracy. to form matters worse, politicians within the country have learned nothing.

They are ever desperate, determined to win elections in the slightest degree value. Why is this so? it's largely as a result of the perks of office, the outrageous allowances, salaries, and jumbo pay they collect. this is why we want to review the take-home pay of our elected officers. That’s the best way to eliminate the politics of do-or-die in our political system.

it's an enormous lie after you hear a number of these politicians speech that they're in politics because they want to serve the individuals. These politicians are liars. they are not serving anybody however their own interests and pockets.

Some people and groups within the North have entailed scrapping of sectionalisation in 2023 but….

Cuts in… Those creating such calls are terribly greedy, and inconsiderate. Such calls won’t work. once Buhari completes his second term in 2023, it ought to be the flip of the South. Not only that, it ought to be the flip of the Southeast in 2023, while the Middle-Belt ought to turn out the nominee to the ethnic group presidential candidate in 2023. within the interest of justice, and equity, this can be however it ought to be.

The ethnic group has smart materials that will do the duty, individuals like former Governor   Peter obi, and Kingsley Moghalu, a former presidential candidate.

Peter obi has incontestible the power to perform. obi might not be a saint however he has shown that he will perform, and he's not also tainted by any scandal. Moghalu is also an asset. He has a clear vision of what he needs to do for Nigeria if elected as President. The bitter truth is this; it's only when we are running a real federal system of the presidency that {we can|we will|we are able to} scrap or jettison zoning but for currently that we tend to are running a federal system that's seriously imperfect then zoning should continue. Those individuals calling for the scrapping of zoning in 2023 from the North don't seem to be patriots. they're greedy, selfish people who are more interested in their own personal interests and ambition rather than Nigeria’s interests.

Are you in a way saying that it's only we restructure that we are able to now scrap zoning?

Exactly. a number of these individuals need the establishment to stay, and that’s why they're frustrating the calls for restructuring. Even President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, APC don't seem to be smitten by restructuring. Buhari and his party are deceiving Nigerians on restructuring. they're not smitten by it at all.

Why does one say so?

Buhari through his body language isn't showing that he's committed to restructuring. for how long has he been saying it? how long can it take him if he's actually committed to it? Even his party, APC discovered a committee with the Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai as its Chairman, which committee recommended restructuring however have they done anything about el-Rufai’s committee recommendations? part of that committee’s recommendation also includes setting up state police, however, have they done something on all these? These people just want the status quo to remain.

Why is Buhari not smitten by implementing el-Rufai’s report? the answer is simple. it's because its implementation will lead to true observe of political theory. however as long as we are not doing the right thing, we can’t expect Nigeria to move forward.

Have you detected concerning the difficulty of the third term for President Buhari, although the President has denied it but…

Cuts in…It won’t happen. Buhari won’t strive for it. though some people and teams may want to drag him into it however Buhari won’t hear those sycophants.  What I do know clearly is that Buhari is thinking about surviving until 2023. He won’t try the Third term. Buhari is looking for how to complete his second term so that he will return to Daura to go and rest, and he has already done a great deal for Daura, his town.

He has got a University of Transportation, an airforce Hospital, and a Federal polytechnic all for Daura. Buhari has done well for Daura, and he can return to the place to rest once completing his second term.

What’s your assessment of the APC LED centralized so far?

I  believe the govt is creating an impact in some areas like rail, and construction. I only hope that some of these infrastructures they are putting in place can be maintained. however, in other areas like education, and health, the govt has not lived up to expectations. Insecurity issue has also become a big challenge for Buhari’s government.

Do you believe recent plans by the centralized to borrow $29 billion despite opposition by some Nigerians?

This APC LED centralized seems to be in a very hurry to develop the country, as they require Nigerians to believe. the govt needs to give Nigerians the impression that it's done a great deal in reworking the country through infrastructural development. however, I   believe that caution ought to be applied. If care isn't taken, APC’s government’s taste for borrowing might produce issues for the state if not currently but within the future. The change, that APC promised to usher in the last four years, have they brought it? APC is simply deceiving Nigerians.

They’ve not done something at any level, and however, they're boasting that they'll move Nigeria to the next level.

APC is a frustrating Nigerians. Why the craze for these loans within the name of building more infrastructures once they can’t even maintain the present ones? check out the manner they're building more universities everywhere the place when they can’t even maintain the present ones? Even currently the military, and therefore the service have discovered their own universities. this can be nonsense. States are not missed. you have got several state universities developing, and therefore the manner we are going, if care isn't taken, a number of these universities might become authorized secondary faculties. No regulation, no management once more. a number of these universities even appoint professors anyhow, of these might affect standards. we should always adopt the correct approach in doing things.

As an anti-corruption crusader, how would you react to the scrapping of outrageous pension themes for former governors, and deputy governors in Zamfara state?

It is the right step in the right direction. alternative State homes of Assembly across the country wherever such outrageous pensions are being collected by former governors and their deputies should follow Zamfara state example. States like urban center state and Akwa-Ibom were former governors are enjoying such perks should emulate Zamfara. Imagine what former Governor Akinwumi Ambode did in Lagos state. once leaving office, they're asking him to return and render accounts of his office but he is running away. If Ambode doesn’t have skeletons in his cabinet he should seem before Lagos state House of Assembly.

Ambode tousled in Lagos. look at the roads. He also secures buses, however where are the buses? Ambode is the worst governor Lagos state has produced.

Now back to what I used to be talking about before. How can a former state governor be collecting N10 million monthly allowance where the majority of the individuals reside in penury? we should always stop paying these outrageous allowances to former public officeholders. we should emulate what is being done in South Africa were elected public office holders signed to a contributory pension fund. while such elected officers are still active in service they pay part of their salaries to the contributory pension fund, the government also pays some cash into the funds for them.

When these people now complete their terms, instead of collecting outrageous severance allowances because it is being done here, what they now give them on a monthly basis is from their contributions to the pension fund. this is what we should do in Nigeria to save costs, and also to stop what I consider a waste of public funds.
